Choosing an inner tube valve can be confusing for those who are new to cycling. The valves are tiny systems that control the airflow inside your tyres. The tyre is inflated by pumping the valve and you can choose between two different types: Presta and Schrader. Both work similarly, but have different features. Presta and Schrader valves are available in many varieties and are made by many different manufacturers. They are also used on larger wheels, such as 26 inch wheels. Schrader inner tubes are available in most parts of the world.
Schrader valves are essentially the same as the Presta valve but are used on more durable inner tubes. The Schrader valve is a spring-loaded closure that can be inflated using a conventional bicycle pump. The outer wall of the Schrader valve is threaded. In addition, the inner pin of the Schrader valve controls the airflow in and out. The inner tube will open slightly as the rim rotates. This is important to allow for air to escape when the bike is riding down a steep slope.
Schrader valves are also more flexible and less expensive than Presta valves. You may have to buy a larger inner tube if you have a Schrader valve.
